To be an arts journalist or not to be...
Aspiring theatre journalists are being offered their big break - covering one of England's leading theatre companies with cash towards expenses.
The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) is looking for a new intake of committed and aspiring arts journalists to regularly cover its productions and events between August 2008 and August 2009.
The RSC wants to hear from upcoming journalists who have connections with youth, local, and ethnic minority media, be it print, broadcast, or online, and will provide bursaries to help you see its output in Stratford upon Avon.
This is a great opportunity to interview leading directors, actors and other theatre practitioners at the RSC; see fantastic plays; and develop an informal mentoring relationship with an arts critic at a leading publication.
A graduate from the 2006 scheme was recently appointed Midlands theatre critic for whatsonstage.com.
Dominic Cavendish, theatre critic at the Daily Telegraph, will share his career tips at an information event, during which those interested can learn more about the scheme and hear the experiences of previous participants.
The event is on June 28, between 3pm and 5pm (registration from 2.30pm) at the RSC, Chapel Lane, Stratford Upon Avon, Warwickshire. Attendance costs £5, to be paid in advance.
