Another chance for aspiring journalists to tell a local story with global impact
October 16 2008
The global video hosting website YouTube has launched the second round of its competition for aspiring journalists.
Entrants are being invited to submit a report of not more than four minutes telling a local story unfolding in their community that demonstrates global issues or challenges.
Project:Report has been set up by YouTube in partnership with the Pullitzer Center in the United States. It stated aim is to tell the stories that might otherwise not be told.
The Pulitzer Center supports in-depth coverage of international affairs, focusing on topics that have been under-reported, misreported, or not reported at all. The Center funds reporting on all media platforms and partners with traditional and new-media news outlets. The Center's Global Gateway engages directly with high school and university students.
The Project:Report website features advice on how to shoot and produce a news video report.
It also features the reports by ten semi-finalists chosen from the 84 entrants in the first round of the competition.
The contest is sponsored by Intel and Sony Vaio, with technology prizes for the winners.
Entrants in round two have until November 9 to upload their videos.
