100,000 sign petition to save trainee journalist facing death sentence
AFGHAN journalism student Sayed Pervez Kambaksh was arrested, tried and convicted without a defence lawyer then sentenced to death for distributing a pamphlet about women's right. A petition to save him from execution started by the Independent newspaper has now gathered more than 100,000 names and the campaign has attracted supporters including the US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice. He and his family have received death threats and he is now in prison awaiting an appeal. You can add your name to the petition calling on the UK Government to put pressure on the Afghan authorities to prevent his death. Find out more and sign the petition on the Independent website
